Melbourne Carew, Principal
Melbourne qualified from Newcastle University in 2005. After qualifying he worked in general practice in Middlesbrough where he built up a loyal following of patients, leading to him being finalist for Best Young Dentist for the North East region two years running. He has shown his commitment to providing quality care by completing a postgraduate diploma in general dental practice and becoming a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners.
Melbourne, along with Samantha, is committed to providing quality care in a relaxed atmosphere and maintaining the ethos of the practice they are now part of. Melbourne’s commitment to the quality care of his patients was highlighted by his completion of a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons, which allows him to provide a greater variety of treatment, meeting all the needs of his patients.
Samantha Carew, Hygienist/Therapist
Samantha graduated from Newcastle University in dental hygiene and therapy working in a number of practices before becoming partner and pricipal hygienist/therapist at Shiremoor Dental Practice in 2010. Samantha’s commitment to high quality care and dedication was rewarded in her being finalist of best therapist of the year UK 2012 (Dentistry Awards)
As a Dental Hygienist/ Therapist, Samantha carries our a variety of treatments including fillings, radiographs, imperssions, extraction of deciduous teeth, tooth whitening, oral hygiene, periodontal treatment (gum disease) and stain removal.
Samantha has completed a number of prestigious courses in dentistry and facial aesthetics including providing wrinkle reduction therapy, skin needling (collagen induction therapy), and chemical peels.
Samantha is a board member and dental care professional co-ordinator of the Northern Division of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners.
Lucy Hall, Hygienist/Therapist
Lucy has worked in dentistry since 1997, starting her career as a dental nurse in Newcastle. In 2008 she achieved distinction in the Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from Newcastle University, so that she is qualified to carry out both hygiene work and provide fillings for both children and adults to the prescription of a dentist.
Lucy joined us in January 2010 and has settled in well in her role in the practice. She is committed to helping patients achieve healthy mouths and enjoys helping patients to feel more confident that they can improve their own health.
Catherine Collins – Practice Manager (GDC registration number 131570)
Catherine has been with the practice since 1997 and manages the day to day running of the practice. She holds qualifications in Dental Nursing, Oral Health Promotion and Practice Management. Catherine enjoys working closely with the team to ensure your visit is as relaxed as possible.
Claire Curran – Senior Dental Nurse/ Receptionist (GDC registration number 126931)
Claire has been with the practice since 2007 as a qualified dental nurse and works both in reception and in the surgery. Since joining the practice Claire has gained further qualifications in customer service and more recently a certificate in management in order to assist the practice manager when required.
Claire enjoys all aspects of her role and loves working as part of a small friendly team.
Charlotte Topping – Qualified Dental Nurse (GDC registration number 274621)
Charlotte has been working in dentistry since 2015 and joined us at the practice in May 2017. She enjoys working both in surgery and on reception. Charlotte will be carrying out further training in the new year which will enable to her extend her role at the practice.
Dionne Galloway- Qualified Dental Nurse (GDC registration number 165945)
Dionne joined the practice in June 2017 and has been working as a qualified dental nurse since 2008. Dionne works mostly in the surgery and is looking forward to attending additional training in fluoride application, photography and impression taking at the start of 2018.
